No Slack Loops
Getting down to business
I’m deeply entangled in the fly fishing world.
This encompasses a few endeavors. For instance, I’m part of a team converting an old estancia homestead into a modern fly fishing lodge and guiding operation down in Chilean Patagonia. It sits on 100 miles of virgin Rio Grande riverbank.
Fly fishing travel at Isolation Outfitters is my day job, helping adventurous anglers reach remote South Pacific atolls, the Argentine steppe, or New Zealand’s hidden wilderness streams.
I’ve managed to keep my head below the parapet, thanks to Southflyfisher – my long-time pseudonym for social channels and forum banter.
Now Southflyfisher has grown into a lively community (17,000+ anglers with over 6k monthly long content reads) and a frequently searched repository for gear reviews and destination advice. You can find it here on Substack and at southflyfisher.com.
Based down in New Zealand, I’m in the thick of launching an exciting new event for inbound fly anglers, as well as writing a guidebook for a part of the world overdue an angling update.
Ah, the busyness of business can get in the way of writing.
So I need my own voice again. No Slack Loops is that vehicle.
Here, I can share the good oil from the back alleys of fishing villages: finding mangos in Mahahual, doubling money on Dólar Blue in Buenos Aires, uncovering a hidden red wine stash in Kiritimati. The eccentricities of lodge owners and guides, shenanigans with mates, and anecdotes of unnamed clients – all of it.
This is behind-the-scenes angling, with a straight line and a tight loop. Candid, concise, and occasionally ridiculous.
I hope you enjoy it. Follow along, and let’s share a few good stories.
